Response and Recovery to Storms and King Tides
Beaches and dunes are impacted at multiple spatial and temporal scales by storms and king tides, which affect coastal residents and tourism. We investigate these impacts using diverse scientific methods and by working with community members.
Human Impacts to the Beach-Dune System
We conduct research to assess the impact of human activity on beach-dune systems, such as beach nourishment, scraping, planted vegetation, and sand fences.
Wind-Blown Sand Processes
An overarching lab goal is to reduce the error between wind-down sand transport predictive models and field-based measurements. These discrepancies hinder coastal managers’ decision-making capabilities. We also have a passion for methodical innovation, including establishing standard research protocols.
