My Story
Science and the coast
Beaches have been at the center of my professional life for more than two decades. I’m fascinated by how dynamic they are: sand moves, dunes grow and erode, storms transform the landscape, and people continually influence the system.
That curiosity led me to create WINDlab and has shaped a career that combines field science, collaboration, and applied coastal research.
Mentoring matters
Some of the work I’m proudest of isn't captured by a publication list.
I love helping students figure out what they’re good at, gain confidence, ask better questions, and see possibilities for themselves that they may not have seen before. To me, mentoring isn't separate from being a scientist or educator—it’s a fundamental part of both.
Science should be shared
I believe science has a greater impact when people can understand it, talk about it, and use it.
That means communicating beyond academic journals—whether I’m talking with students, coastal communities, managers, decision-makers, or people who simply love the beach. I want coastal science to be rigorous, accessible, and useful.
Beyond Work
I’m a world traveler, South Carolina nature lover, ex-athlete, and dog mom.
I love being outside - on a beach, at a park, or working out. I’m always happiest when there’s a little adventure involved. And yes, there is almost always a dog nearby.
